Eligibility

Summary of Eligibility Criteria

Potential members’ eligibility will be higher based on higher alignment with the criteria. The evaluation will be carried out considering innovation capacity, level of impact, effectiveness, inclusivity, and success in delivery of skills development initiatives.

Skills for an Inclusive Future members must be aligned with the long-term thematic focus of the network on inclusive skills development on digital transformation, future of work, and green economy. Network initiatives will also contribute to the socio-economic recovery for COVID-19 pandemic. 

S4IF will seek for initiatives that have innovative methods or delivery models in place for skills generation and employment. The innovative approach should contribute to better skills delivery, employability of the target group, and inclusion of disadvantaged groups in the economy with an aim of delivering the trainings to the last mile.

Initiatives must have been developed to include vulnerable and under-served groups especially women, youth, migrant and displaced people, hard to reach populations and people with disabilities.

Members must demonstrate interest in forging partnerships, or already existing public and private partners. The initiatives must be multi-stakeholder either led by the private sector or in the form of a public-private partnership.

Skills for an Inclusive Future members must be able to generate measurable results and able to share progress against their commitment. The development impact should be positive, explicit, specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely in terms of better skills delivery and employability on the side of the target group and inclusion of the disadvantaged groups in the economy. In your communication and application, you may show your impact with the following indicators:

  • Number of people trained - The selected initiative must have contributed to skills acquisition of disadvantaged groups
    • Number of women trained
    • Number of young people trained
    • Number of migrant or displaced people trained
    • Number of people with disabilites trained
  • Number of people placed* - Higher placement ratio for successful graduates and trainees are preferred
    • Number of women placed
    • Number of young people placed
    • Number of migrant or displaced people placed
    • Number of people with disabilities placed
  • Number of years in operation - The company must be in operation for at least 3 years while the initiative is planned to be in place for the long term minimum 2-3 years
  • Number and size of public and private partners – Initiatives that bring together private sector actors, training institutes, civil society, policy and research institutions, resource partners, government institutions, national skills organizations, and other skills development network, etc. for more effective skills delivery have higher potential for generating knowledge

 

* Placement can cover placement to a job, placement to entrepreneurship track via launching own business or enrolment to a higher level training

S4IF membership is granted to companies based on the impact potential of their proposed inclusive skills development initiatives.

Exclusionary Criteria

Skills for an Inclusive Future will not accept applications from companies that produce or trade in weapons, munitions and military equipment; tobacco or hard liquor; or casinos and gambling, as per both UNDP & EBRD’s exclusionary criteria. Companies that trade in any product or activity deemed illegal under host country laws or regulations or international conventions and agreements, or that are subject to sanction by the UN Security Council, or suspension from the Procurement Division of the UN, will not be accepted for S4IF membership.

Company’s Commitment to sustainability and ESG related principles

S4IF membership is offered to companies with innovative, impactful inclusive skills development models targeting developing countries. Companies’ commitment to sustainability and ESG principles can documented by having sustainability-related certifications or reporting (e.g. ISO14001, SA8000, AA1000, OHSAS 18001, or GRI Principles). Company’s inclusion in any sustainability or ESG-related indices (e.g. FTSE4Good, Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, etc.), or similar national/regional initiatives can serve as a proof of commitment. Membership to UN Global Compact will be an indicating factor for commitment to sustainability.

Membership Commitments Progress Reporting

  • Members must comply with reporting requirements of the network on the impact of their respective skills development initiatives.
  • Annual progress updates are linked to skills development indicators in the company's approved member application and can be completed online in the member portal
  • Members who fail to submit progress updates for two or more consecutive years are counted inactive.

Commitment to Knowledge Exchange

  • Members must demonstrate a commitment to knowledge exchange and actively share their experience and expertise in an open and transparent manner.
  • Members are expected to contribute to peer-to-peer learning, communities of practice, best practice sharing, and events/workshops facilitated by the network.

Multiple Commitments

  • At the end of their commitment timeline, companies are invited to make a new commitment in order to maintain active membership status and continue to benefit from S4IF member services
